Fintech strategy aims for cashless society through digital transformation

The Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates has announced its fintech strategy, comprising nine initiatives to be implemented by 2026, including the launch of a digital currency. 

Governor Khaled Mohamed Balama said “we are proud to be building an infrastructure” towards “digitising the economy and developing the financial sector”. 

In the digital payments realm the central bank is developing a domestic card scheme, an instant payments platform, and the issuance of central bank digital
