RBNZ bulletin reports growth in currency, fall in counterfeits
The amount of currency in circulation in New Zealand was $4.4 billion at the end of June 2012, a rise of 4.9% on the previous 12 months, noted an article by Glenys Jacobson in the December issue of the Reserve Bank's quarterly Bulletin. Of this, the public held $3.8 billion, with the remainder held by banks. Total currency in circulation has risen by 30% over the past five years.
