Working group minutes: reserve managers chafe at constraints

Officials at several central banks say limited investment universe restricts room for manoeuvre

Reserve managers said they faced challenges in taking an agile approach to adopting new asset classes during the latest Central Banking interbank working group.

The participants met in Mexico City on November 14 to discuss some of the shared issues they face at a challenging moment for geopolitics and following a period of higher interest rates and inflation. Most of the participants were from central banks in the Caribbean, Central and South America, though Asia-Pacific was also represented.
