Carney named UN special envoy on climate risk
Governor will join the UN’s staff on his departure from the Bank of England
Mark Carney has been named United Nations special envoy on climate action and finance, a role he will take up when he steps down as Bank of England governor.
UN secretary-general António Guterres unveiled the appointment on December 1, in remarks to press ahead of the opening of COP25 (“conference of the parties”), the latest round of climate talks, which are taking place in Spain.
Guterres described Carney as a “remarkable pioneer” for his work in highlighting the financial risks around
