Eurozone headline inflation drops sharply
But core figure remains high as service price rises persist
Headline inflation in the eurozone dropped to 6.9% in March, a sharp decline from 8.5% a month earlier, flash estimates showed today (March 31).
A reversal in energy inflation helped cut harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) inflation, said Eurostat, the European Union’s statistical agency. Energy inflation was 13.7% in February but plunged into negative figures in March, to -0.9%.
Food prices were the biggest positive contributor, rising from 15% in February to 15.4% in March.
