Carney calls for competitiveness gains to drive exports

Mark Carney

Governor of the Bank of Canada Mark Carney has called for Canadian companies to focus on increasing exports to emerging market economies, stating that Canada's exports are geared towards the slower-growing developed economies. In a speech released on May 1, Carney said 85% of Canada's exports go to the eurozone and the US, with just 8% going to China.

Carney also said there was a need for Canadian companies to become more competitive and Canadian businesses need to "retool and retrain" .
