Japan's economy continues to face strong downward pressure on the production side due to the effects of the Tohoku earthquake disaster, the Bank of Japan's Monthly Report of Recent Economic and Financial Developments, published on Monday, said.

The report, based on data and information available at the time of the Bank of Japan's monetary policy meeting held on May 19 and 20, said production had declined sharply due to the supply-side constraints caused by the disaster. Exports had decreased
