US students struggling to repay loans after end of relief – study
Survey found borrowers unable, or unwilling, to service debt after pandemic support ceased
Many US students have been unable, and some have been unwilling, to service their loans since repayments resumed last October, new research has found.
Researchers from the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia examined surveys of students by the Consumer Finance Institute.
The reason given most often, by 56% of respondents, for not resuming payments after the Covid student loan relief was lifted was that doing so was unaffordable. “Service frictions” were cited by 25% of respondents, while 21% said
