Swedish parliament urged to reinforce legal status of cash
“More consumers and businesses need access to payment accounts,” says Riksbank governor
Sveriges Riksbank has called for an urgent reinforcement of cash as a means of payment in Swedish legislation.
In a response to the Payment Inquiry’s report published today (October 27), the Swedish central bank stresses the state should play a more active role in the payment system. It deems parliament should work on legislation to prepare for a central bank digital currency, and to increase financial and digital inclusion.
