The International Monetary Fund has suspended its programme for Georgia over concerns about the central bank’s independence and its sanctions enforcement, acting governor Natia Turnava said.

Turnava acknowledged the suspension in an interview broadcast by PalitraNews TV on September 26. “We’ll do everything we can to get the programme back on track,” she said, according to a translation confirmed by a National Bank of Georgia (NBG) spokesperson.

The IMF’s programme is worth $280 million, but
