BLS revises US employment downward
Bureau says 818,000 fewer jobs were created over year to March than it had previously estimated
Total jobs in the US outside the farming sector were 818,000 fewer than previously estimated for the year ending in March, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics announced on August 21.
The bureau said its revision was preliminary and that it would publish the final figure in February.
The bureau had previously reported that 2.9 million jobs had been created over the year. It said its revision of the figure down to around 2.1 million – a reduction of more than 28% of the earlier total – is the largest
