IMF reaches staff-level agreement with Argentina on EFF

The fund could release a tranche of nearly $800m upon board approval

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) said it had reached an agreement with Argentina on an eighth review of an extended fund facility (EFF) that came into being in March 2022.

Fund staff praised Argentina’s “better-than-expected performance” and added that its economy met all targets including driving down inflation and rebuilding external buffers.

The fund’s verdict offers some validation for president Javier Milei, who came to power in December 2023, and his austerity policies, which included
