ECB steps up work on climate change

Central bank launches climate change centre and invests in new BIS green bond fund

European Central Bank president Christine Lagarde stressed today (January 25) how climate change affects all core central banking goals, unveiling new measures to bolster the ECB’s green policies.

The central bank today launched a climate change centre to bring together its work on the green transition. This is set to become operative in early 2021 with around 10 existing staff members reporting directly to Lagarde.
