Fed lifts lid on ETF purchases

Biggest holding is of a BlackRock ETF, the same firm managing the purchases

The Federal Reserve published details of the exchange-traded funds (ETFs) it is buying on May 28, shedding light on a new area of its financial market interventions.

The Fed has been buying ETFs through its Secondary Market Corporate Credit Facility, a special-purpose vehicle financed by the New York Fed and backed by an equity investment from the Treasury. Another facility, the Primary Market Corporate Credit Facility, is not yet in operation.

Though the Treasury has provided equity backing
