BIS project seeks better historical statistics

Collaboration aims at better understanding of economic history

The Bank for International Settlements has published the first report of a new project aiming to gather better historical statistics on the economy.

The publication is the first to be issued by the central bank network on historical monetary and financial statistics (HMFS). Formed in 2016, the HMFS is an informal gathering of central bankers and academics, brought together by the BIS’s Claudio Borio and Norges Bank’s Jan Qvigstad.
