Norway’s headline inflation increases to 5.4%

Analysts say 50bp rate hike becoming more likely

Inflation in Norway increased sharply in April, making it more likely Norges Bank will execute a 50 basis point interest rate increase in June, analysts say.

Last month the headline consumer price index (CPI) increased year on year by 5.4%, up from 4.5% in March, Statistics Norway said today (May 10).

Norges Bank’s preferred measure of inflation is the CPI-ATE, which is adjusted for tax changes and excluding energy products. This increased in April above expectations to 2.6%, from 2.1% in the
