BIS authors detail new data on non-bank exposures

Banks have highly concentrated exposures to non-financial counterparties, researchers say

The Bank for International Settlements started publishing new data on banks’ exposures to non-banks, starting with the September 22 quarterly review.

In a special feature included with the review, Pablo Garcia-Luna and Bryan Hardy detail some of the early findings. They say banks have “increasingly large” positions with the non-bank sector, and their exposures to non-financial counterparties is particularly concentrated.
