NY Fed study documents widespread manufacturing slowdown

Firms of all sizes in industries across US are affected, according to research

A widespread and mysterious slowdown in US manufacturing is affecting firms of all sizes across various industries, researchers from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York have found.

The paper, written by Danial Lashkari and Jeremy Pearce and published on July 11, claims that during the past two decades labour productivity has slowed. The slowdown has been particularly severe in the manufacturing sector, which the authors say has typically helped drive productivity in the economy as a whole.
