Lithuania to launch ‘digital’ commemorative coin

Central bank will host a “hackathon” to decide on technology to underpin the digital asset

The Bank of Lithuania is planning to launch a “digital” commemorative coin, which would make it the first central bank in the world to embark upon such an initiative.

In a statement published today (March 7), the central bank says it will release a “one-of-a-kind digital collector coin” using blockchain – or similar – technology.
