Venezuela's highest denomination banknote will continue to circulate into 2017 after the nation's president backtracked on a decision to remove the note from circulation, citing delivery problems.

In a statement released by the Central Bank of Venezuela on December 19, it was revealed Nicolás Maduro had taken the decision to allow the 100 bolivar to remain legal tender until all the shipments of the new banknote series had arrived in the country.

The news comes just days after the president
