Philippines central bank paper analyses effect of remittance flows
A working paper, published by the Central Bank of the Philippines on July 16, examines the effect of flows of remittances into the Filipino economy, finding both positive and negative impacts.
The remittances referred to concern Filipino workers abroad sending money to relatives within the Philippines. The author, Veronica Bayangos, analyses increases in remittances over the period 1999–2010, finding that these flows increase consumption, investment, labour productivity and economic growth. The
