Constâncio supports guided stress tests of shadow banks

ECB vice-president highlights the importance of developing a ‘clearer picture’ of the sector

European Central Bank (ECB) vice-president Vítor Constâncio today (July 3) continued his campaign for a broader macro-prudential toolkit that can address risks in the shadow banking sector, arguing in favour of new stress tests to help regulators target policy more appropriately.

Addressing a conference organised by the Bank of Lithuania, Constâncio said regulators would need a "clearer picture of the resilience of individual institutions and the system as a whole to shocks" before deploying
