IMF’s Lipsky calls for major US fiscal consolidation

John Lipsky, the first deputy managing director of the International Monetary Fund, on Saturday said a clear fiscal consolidation plan from the United States could provide potential benefits to global growth.

At a American Economic Association annual meeting in Denver, Colorado, Lipsky said: "The longer fiscal consolidation is delayed, the more likely there would be a sharper rise in Treasury yields – which could prove disruptive for global financial markets and for the world economy."
