Ghana issues banknote with QR code
New ¢5 note with 2D barcode to help educate the public on the numerous security features
To commemorate its sixtieth birthday, the Bank of Ghana has launched a new ¢5 ($1.08) banknote with an innovative new feature.
In a presentation published by the bank’s currency department, the bank revealed it would embed a QR code into the note, which when scanned with a mobile device will direct members of the public to details of the note’s security features.
QR codes are not a common feature in banknotes. In 2007, the Netherlands Bank proposed printing QR codes on euro notes, which would
