Five alive: new Scottish £5 polymer banknote

The Royal Bank of Scotland has today (October 27) issued a new £5 banknote, the bank's first polymer note.

The new note, which is printed on De La Rue's 'Safeguard' polymer substrate, is the first of the "Fabric of Nature" series to be issued. The £10 note is expected to be circulated in 2017.

Malcolm Buchanan, chairman of RBS, said the launch of the new note was a "historic moment" in the history of the bank. "It is our first polymer note, a note fit for a modern age and one that will serve
