Bank of Canada grandees pay tribute to James Coyne
James Coyne, a former governor of the Bank of Canada, died on October 12 aged 102. Coyne was known during his tenure for his dogged determination in pursuing price stability as well as for his combative efforts to enforce central bank operational autonomy. His heated arguments with the government of the day regarding the latter ultimately led to his resignation in what some term the ‘Coyne Affair'.
