Riksbank deputy describes “surprisingly strong” economy

The first deputy governor of the Sveriges Riksbank, Kerstin af Jochnick, has described the performance of the Swedish economy during the past quarter as "surprisingly strong" despite "weak developments" in the eurozone.

Af Jochnick said Swedish GDP had exceeded expectations, with preliminary national accounts data showing growth of 1.4% in the second quarter, which corresponds to an annualised growth rate of 5.7%. "This was a much stronger figure than we and other forecasters were expecting," af
