Liebscher says EU integration must not be hampered

National Bank of Austria governor Klaus Liebscher said in an interview that EU integration must not be hampered by protectionist measures to fight cross-border mergers in some countries.

'I think European integration -- and this is a must for me -- must not be counteracted by nationalist, protectionist measures,' Liebscher said in an interview with the International Herald Tribune.

Liebscher told the IHT cross-border takeover battles are 'not our domain' at the ECB but he said 'the ground rules
