Banks constitute the largest participants in central banks’ instant payment systems, the Payments Benchmarks 2024 finds.
Data was collected from 24 central banks. The statistics show that on average, local banks account for 73.8% of direct access to instant payment systems. Eleven respondents reported granting only banks direct access to these payment platforms, but three jurisdictions reported zero bank participants.
Other institutions have an average of 7.9% direct access to instant payments
