Four in five central banks lack chief fintech officers

Centralised fintech teams more likely to have chief fintech officers

A clear majority of central banks lack a chief fintech officer, data from the Fintech Benchmarks 2023 shows.

Only five of 34 respondents say they have a chief fintech officer in their central banks. The wider majority of 85.3% say they lack the office.

Most central banks also lack a dedicated fintech team. Among 35 respondents, 43% say they do not have a unit of that nature. Some 23% say “yes – across departments/divisions”. Slightly over a third (34%) says “yes – in one department/division.
