Most central banks give background briefings on key initiatives to journalists

Practice is dominant across central banks from advanced and emerging economies

It is highly common for central banks to offer background briefings on key initiatives to journalists, the Communications Benchmarks 2023 found.

Ninety-five percent of the respondents (36 of 38 central banks) said they offer such off-the-record briefings to reporters.

Sixty-three percent said they gave such briefings to private-sector analysts, and 53% said they do so for academics.
