Offline digital euro solution could be years away, ECB says
Central bank invited market participants, including Amazon, to carry out test
The ability to offer an effective offline digital euro could still be years away, according to a new report by the European Central Bank (ECB).
“The question remains as to whether an offline solution that fulfils the Eurosystem’s requirements and achieves the necessary scale can be delivered in the short-to-medium term with the existing technology,” says the ECB in the report, published on May 26.
