Eurozone consumer inflation expectations rose significantly, ECB says
Rise in expectations may bolster arguments for tighter monetary policy
Eurozone consumer inflation expectations “increased significantly” over the last three months, according to a survey published by the European Central Bank today (May 11).
Median consumer expectations for inflation for the next year increased from 4.6% in February to 5% now, the ECB said. Inflation expectations three years ahead also increased, from 2.4% to 2.9% over the same period.
Consumers’ median rate of perceived inflation over the previous year also rose, from 8.7% in February to 9.9%
