IMF loans $1.3 billion to Ukraine under ‘food shock window’

Foreign donors should increase funding, IMF says, after officials warn of potential instability

The International Monetary Fund has approved emergency funding of $1.3 billion for Ukraine to help meet its “urgent balance of payments needs”.

The IMF statement made it plain that it expected Ukraine’s other external donors to increase their direct funding of the country’s government. Senior economic policy officials, including the central bank’s monetary policy committee, have urgently called for greater external financing for several months.

IMF managing director Kristalina Georgieva warned
