Ukraine war could affect eurozone growth and inflation – Lagarde

Philip Lane says eurozone inflation still largely driven by transitory factors

The Russian invasion of Ukraine could have a snowballing effect on eurozone inflation, and also restrict growth, European Central Bank president Christine Lagarde has said.

“The war could set in motion new inflationary trends that take a while to play out,” Lagarde said today (March 17), although the ECB’s chief economist Philip Lane said he believed eurozone inflation was still largely driven by transitory factors, with core inflation lagging the US.
