More central banks plan experimental CBDCs – BIS
Emerging market central banks in particular are focusing on retail CBDCs, report says
A growing number of central banks plan to bring out experimental digital currencies, research from the Bank for International Settlements says.
The BIS’s latest central bank-issued digital currency (CBDC) survey says central banks representing roughly a fifth of the world’s population plan to introduce a “general purposes CBDC in the next three years”.
Codruta Boar and Andreas Wehrli, the authors of the report, say 86% of the 65 central banks surveyed are actively exploring CBDCs, up from 80%
