Paper tracks changing rhetoric of Bank of Italy governors
Governors have changed the focus of their concluding remarks over time
Speeches given by governors of the Bank of Italy have stopped concentrating on economic trends and instead focus on economic programmes, according to new research.
Valerio Astuti, Riccardo De Bonis, Sergio Marroni and Alessandro Vinci say they are the first to analyse concluding remarks of governors from 1946 to 2018 – a dataset containing more than 850,000 words.
