Dutch households sharply increased savings in 2019
Higher net incomes and the need to offset lower interest rates behind surge, says DNB
Dutch households’ savings in banks increased sharply in 2019, reflecting higher net incomes and the need to offset the effect of negative rates.
According to the Netherlands Bank (DNB), at the end of 2019, the country’s banks held €368 billion ($403 billion) in household savings, €13 billion more than a year earlier, a 3.5% increase.
