RBI minutes: dissenters eye ‘elevated and persistent’ core inflation

Viral Acharya and Chetan Ghate voted against a rate cut at the latest meeting

Two Reserve Bank of India officials who voted against a cut at the latest monetary policy meeting stressed their concerns over high levels of core inflation, minutes from the meeting show.

Viral Acharya and Chetan Ghate were the only two committee members to vote against the hike on February 7, with four voting in favour. However, the committee unanimously agreed to shift its stance from a bias towards tightening to “neutral”.

Both Acharya and Ghate highlighted the “elevated” levels of core
