Kuroda flags three traps Asia should avoid
BoJ governor says focus should be on productivity-enhancing reforms
Bank of Japan (BoJ) governor Haruhiko Kuroda took a break from Japanese monetary policy today (July 21), giving a speech warning of risks on the horizon for Asian growth.
Giving Asia's first Amartya Sen Lecture in Bangkok, Kuroda flagged three traps the region could fall into: being unable to break free from the middle-income bracket; growth slowing as a result of demographic change; and 'Malthusian' constraints on the supply of land or water.
The solution, he said, was to increase productivity
