Net lending to UK businesses still negative, BoE data shows

Net lending to UK businesses remained negative in the second quarter of 2013, despite attempts by the government to prod banks into boosting credit creation, data released today by the Bank of England revealed.

In an update on the use of the Funding for Lending Scheme (FLS), which was set up by UK Treasury and the UK central bank in July 2012 to incentivise banks and building societies to increase lending to the real economy by providing them with cheap funding, the BoE said commercial net
