Syrian governor addresses banknote printing rumours
The governor of the Central Bank of Syria, Adib Mayyaleh, on June 17 issued a statement debunking media reports that claimed new banknotes were being printed in Russia and added to the currency pool in circulation.
Speaking to the Syrian state news agency, Sana, Mayyaleh called the rumours "baseless" – the intention being to "confuse" the public into "linking the printing of money with the events taking place in the country", the governor said.
