At a meeting on Tuesday, Mexico's Senate voted in favour of Manuel Ramos Francia, the chief economist at the Bank of Mexico, as the fourth deputy governor of the central bank.

Ramos was nominated earlier this month by president Felipe Calderón to replace Guillermo Güemez, whose second eight-year term ended in December 31, 2010. Mexican rules state that deputy governors must be less than 65 years of age to commence a term – at 71, Güemez was not allowed to begin a third term.
