Riksbank's Svensson says monetary policy had no role in crisis

The financial crisis was largely caused by factors that had very little to do with monetary policy Lars Svensson, the deputy governor of the Riksbank, said on Friday.

At the Second International Journal of Central Banking Fall Conference in Tokyo, Japan, Svensson said: "As I see it, the financial crisis was caused by factors that had very little to do with monetary policy. The factors were the macro conditions; distorted incentives in financial markets; regulatory and supervisory failures
