Gudmundsson named Icelandic governor

Már Gudmundsson, the deputy head of the monetary and economics department at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), has been appointed the governor of the Central Bank of Iceland.

Gudmundsson has been at the BIS since June 2004. Before heading to Basel, he served two stints at the Icelandic central bank, rising to the role of chief economist.
From 1988 to 1991, he was the chief economic adviser to Iceland's finance minister. He has also been a member of various governmental committees
