IMF approves ‘food shock window’
Temporary measure will help countries deal with food insecurity
The International Monetary Fund’s executive board approved the creation of a “food shock window” lending facility on September 30.
The temporary fund will offer emergency funding to countries facing “acute food insecurity, increased costs of cereal and fertiliser imports, or cereal exports shortfalls”. The IMF estimates that 345 million people currently face food insecurity.
The food shock window will operate within the IMF’s other emergency lending programmes, the Rapid Financing Instrument
