Central African Republic makes cryptocurrency legal tender
War-torn state is second country to give crypto official status, after El Salvador
The president of the Central African Republic, Faustin-Archange Touadéra, approved a law making bitcoin legal tender, according to an April 26 government press release.
If this announcement is correct, the CAR will be the second country to make bitcoin an official currency, after El Salvador.
The press release from the government says the new cryptocurrency law is part of an “economic recovery and peace-building plan”.
