The US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on November 5 that the country had added 531,000 new non-farm jobs in October, markedly better than the August and September jobs numbers, which had been depressed by the Delta strain.

The unemployment rate fell to 4.6%, a drop from 4.8% in September. Labour-force participation rates remained stable at 61.6%.

Janelle Jones, chief economist at the US Labor Department, said the US has restored 81% of the 22.4 million jobs lost early in the pandemic
