Podcast: macro forces shaping global markets
The effect of real shocks to supply chains two years ago is still being felt today. How central banks responded at the time has contributed to the shift away from the low interest rate, low inflation environment to this new era of persistent inflation we find ourselves in today.
War and geopolitical tensions are adding to inflationary pressure and uncertainty. In this podcast, Marija Djordjevic, director for private market research at Blackrock, talks about the macro elements shaping global markets.
"The [Covid-19] pandemic triggered a massive sectoral relocation that has yet to normalise," Marija Djordjevic says. "It has created labour supply constraints, most obviously in the fact that US labour force participation remains far short of its pre-pandemic rate."
Bonds and stocks are now "moving simultaneously". Djordjevic explores how investors are reacting to movements in key asset classes using technology and data to hedge their portfolios.
