PBoC pledges to improve visitors’ payment experience

China’s central bank tells firms to make mobile and card payments easier for foreign nationals

The People’s Bank of China (PBoC) has instructed banks and payment platforms to improve payment services for foreign visitors.

Speaking at a policy briefing today (March 1), deputy governor Zhang Qingsong said he had noticed that foreigners had been facing difficulties in making mobile payments when travelling or doing business in China.

Zhang said the PBoC would instruct Alipay and WeChat Pay to roll out measures to make it easier for visitors to link their overseas bank cards to the firms’
